Functional Medicine
A systems approach to healthcare that looks for root of health problems unlike traditional western medicine. Link: IFM institute of functional medicine
A comprehensive basic functional medicine work up often includes: (you may click on the tests below to be taken to the test company's site)
1. Adrenal Cortisol saliva test by Genova (checks DHEA & circadian rhythm of your cortisol, the HPA axis)
__________________________________________________________
2. Stool PCR test: microbiome (parasites, viruses, yeast, bacteria, immune function, pancreatic function, gluten sensitivity) by Diagnostics Solutions
_________________________________________________________
3. Metabolism testing: organic acids, amino acids urine & serum testing Link: Genova's NutrEval or OMX

4. Less often needed are food sensitivity, Dutch Hormone Urine Testing, and more.
The testing mentioned above is done in addition to a comprehensive local blood lab testing which should include Vit D, Vit B12, fasting insulin, GGT, tTG IgA, ferritin, thyroid comprehensive testing, and more. Currently I accept insurance and the testing above costs about $800-1000 if your insurance doesn't help with coverage. Medicare, but not most Advantage plans, covers over $680 of the cost of those tests, and may cover more with certain supplemental plans. Please keep in mind that there are well know functional medicine physician that provide this same diagnostic work up for up to $5000+ coupled with a health coach to assist in lifestyle changes to make the treatment protocols successful.
